This session discusses the challenge that many PS organizations have today: how to move from simple cost-based T&M engagements to value-added, more complex, business-solution-oriented and outcome-based services. A part of solving this challenge at Red Hat has been the definition and implementation of a set of well-defined but flexible and adaptable risk management and quality management processes. An important success criteria was the ongoing change management and promotion of a "risk culture" throughout the organization. Proven success metrics increased speed in turning around custom proposals, with a well-understood and mitigated risk profile; targeted mentoring and focus on critical deals in delivery, including an early-warning system for potential project issues; and continued project successes (often coming in above the estimated margin targets).
