Key takeaways
One-time tariff refunds are flattering the margins of some medical systems makers.
IEEPA refunds landed in cost of revenue at GE HealthCare, Stryker, Omnicell and Intuitive Surgical this quarter. They are legal, disclosed and one-time. Omnicell’s reported operating margin drops without its refund, while Intuitive Surgical’s underlying business stays strong. All four refunds are in the medical systems segment, so the operating margin gap between the two segments can’t be read as a structural advantage.
Some healthcare software growth was bought.
Waystar, Phreesia and HealthStream each reported growth that an acquisition helped produce, and two of the three don’t disclose an organic rate.
An operating loss can mean a contracting business... or a one-time charge.
Health Catalyst’s loss includes a goodwill impairment on falling revenue, and OptimizeRx lost revenue on a customer-driven drop. iRhythm’s loss is a securities-litigation settlement on growing revenue, and Certara is near breakeven after a divestiture. Read the flag before the margin.
