Many PS organizations have put considerable effort into defining a strong set of KPIs. People across the organization are encouraged to make decisions based on these indicators. But these decisions can be flawed because people tend to over-react to short-term data points—they jump to conclusions based on points, not patterns. As Hockey superstar Wayne Gretzky said "[...]you need to skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been."
