Director of Research, Managed Services

The primary functions of the Managed Services Research Director role include gathering and analyzing information and discerning key trends regarding Managed Services capabilities and organizations. Qualified candidates are required have extensive and current knowledge of how to build, scale, and operate managed services organizations.

The ideal candidate for this role will have deep understanding of the following topics for managed services organizations: strategy and alignment, operational performance, organization structure, delivery capabilities, tools and technologies, offer models, sales models, client management and financial governance.

This role focuses on gathering qualitative and quantitative information that will be used to create reports and presentations that provide strategic insights and actionable intelligence for TSIA member companies. This person is comfortable with and enjoys working with data. More importantly, this person can convey key findings presented to all levels in an organization from individual contributors to C-level executives. Managed Services research information will be delivered through a variety of means including virtually, executive presentations, webinars, in-person workshops, whitepapers and blogs.

The Research Director is part of a research team responsible for the successful application of association frameworks and insights by association members. This person will work closely with the Executive leadership team, Analytics Team, Membership Development, Membership Success, and other key roles inside of TSIA. A strong teaming attitude is a critical attribute.

Key activities of this position will include:

Responsibilities:

Be the managed services industry expert

  • Data gathering, analysis, and presentation of industry benchmarking for members
  • Assess patterns in the data sets and provide analyses through whitepapers, webinars, conference presentations and member inquiry
  • Ongoing content refinements to benchmarking and industry trend data-gathering instruments
  • Deliver research insights to TSIA community through bi-annual TSIA conferences (virtual and in-person)

Deliver advisory services based on TSIA research

  • Presentation of data-driven insights to members at both the executive leadership level and at the organization level
  • Workshop with members to assist with building organization capabilities to address key business challenges

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge in how to build, scale and operate managed services organizations
  • Minimum of 7 years of industry experience managing and being part of a managed services organization
  • Managed Service Delivery Operations and Tools / Technology insight is a plus
  • Strong customer service skills; ability to develop strong rapport and instant credibility with member company executives
  • Previous experience in application of best practices and industry benchmarks using analytic intelligence
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to travel ~25%

Like every employee at TSIA, this position will be evaluated on the ability of the association to grow and meet the business needs of members. Additionally, this position will be evaluated on the following metrics:

  • Quality of research deliverables and the ability to publish in blogs, research papers, webinars, and conference presentations
  • Member satisfaction scores on inquiries and benchmarks
  • Process innovation
  • Insightful data analysis
  • Peer evaluation

Tools

The Research Director will have proficiency with the following tools:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Salesforce, Alchemer (formerly SurveyGizmo)
  • Tableau knowledge is a plus
