EDUCATION SERVICES
Education Services has emerged as a full-blown service discipline, with many of the same business dynamics and challenges faced by its more mature counterparts—as well as some hurdles that are unique to the profession.
Education Services business leaders face complex challenges: demand creation, pricing and packaging, delivery mediums, sales channels and compensation, facilities, certification, technology, partners, instructor hiring models, and—perhaps the biggest challenge—charter and alignment. In a recent TSIA survey of education services executives, nearly 50% of survey respondents said that their education services businesses were not aligned with either company or business unit goals.
TSIA’s Education Services discipline, newly launched in May of 2010, will help members understand and act on the three essential components of aligning their education services businesses with corporate strategy:
- Charter—For what main purpose does Education Services exist? Is it intended to contribute directly to business unit revenues and profits? Or is its primary objective to increase product adoption and customer satisfaction?
- Financial Model—What is the intended financial performance of Education Services? Is it to be managed as a profit center or as a cost center?
- Financial Performance—How does Education Services perform financially? Is it profitable or not? And how does performance compare to other Education Services businesses in the technology industry?
Over the coming months we will be making significant contributions to our Education Services knowledgebase with the introduction of the TSIA Education Services Benchmark; Education Services tracks at our conferences; member surveys; research articles; Webcasts; community and peer-to-peer networking opportunities; and much more.
